On a walk in the area to Jesus's Thimble and Lucifers walk from Milngavie. It was a lovely day, cold and crisp. Pretty boggy in part on route made easier on the frozen ground, It would have been a lot harder otherwise. Good views

Third trigpoint from cochno carpark. Definitely made it hard for myself. Trying to find an easy route 🙈. I tried to get across to the forestry road I could see running below to follow this and fight my way through the trees to the trigpoint. Turns out there is a path up to it which goes around the larger Loch below it. Found this out by following it on route back down 🙈. Following the path all the way past the jaw reservoir and back to the carpark. 7.5 mile loop with the 3 trigpoints.

Used a new road which ends in the forest to the west. After visiting the summit, I used a well cut path through the trees to the moorland. There has been a lot of footfall around the pillar, probably due to travel restrictions in the Winter.

Log #488. Parking at south entrance to golf club, followed tracks up towards the hills then found a route through the heather and tussocks to the pillar. What looks like the remains of a fire beater have been shoved into the tube, and a skull on a stick is nearby for some reason. Good condition otherwise, decent views of the Campsies. Followed quad tracks south, then looped anti-clockwise through fields back to the busy road. Continued along the yellow road to visit the Hilton trig. [ExP-329/MiP-38/Rev-6/BM-39/IS-50/Other-26]

Revisit. Approached from SW. Parked in Faifley, up via farmroads to Muirhouses then hillside pastures to top. Pillar in good condition but slightly worn around the top edges, still with much white paint. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces east, ~81°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. 180° panoramic view centred on east, westerly aspect blocked by conifers. Photographed 6/10/2012. GOML disappointed me by being absent. Went up spoiling for a challenge.

Pleasant if soggy walk up from the south. No access issues encountered but had to avoid the bullocks in the first field off the road by climbing a few slightly inconvenient fences. If the bulls weren't there the path would be pretty straightforward all the way up to the trig.

Slightly damaged pillar with damage restricted to the corners being knocked off giving the top a strangely rounded look. Spider is intact although the cap is missing and unplugged. FB faces east-ish and all sightholes are open except east. The pillar is still white (ironically given its name!) although starting to look a bit tatty. The views are pretty good across to Auchineden Hill, Dumgoyne, Dumfoyne, Earl's Seat, Cort-ma-Law, Tomtain.....views restricted to the west due to the plantation. See Muirhouses log for info on access and GOML.....

Had a vague memory of visiting this one some twenty years ago, on a walk between Milngavie and Bowling (?) railway stations. I was right - the awkward terrain to the south/ south-east brought back memories of similar irritation on that occasion. No sign of the Beast, but maybe I spiked her guns by coming down from Black Loch towards Muirhouses, rather than up the track past her.

GOML Alert! Descended this hill half expecting another confrontation with the chain smoking Beast of West Muirhouses, who stopped me getting here from the SW in 1989. Claimed that an uninformed city dweller such as myself would disturb the sheep. I was on an evening break during a business trip and could not afford to get into any bother, legal or otherwise, not that trespass is an offence in Scotland. By 1992 following an ascent from the east, I was three years older and wiser, but looking out for that Beast again. This time I was spoiling for a good healty argument and ready to challenge the intellect of the said Beast. To my disappointment the Beast was nowhere to be seen - or heard. In the years since, and on very rare occurances of GOMLism, no subsequent GOML has ever successfully stopped me venturing onto open land, despite whatever their rantings may be. People like those who occupied West Muirhouses in 1989 (and possibly still do) give a bad name to the landowning community. They would do better to learn Scottish Law. The Beast? SHE was quite frightening!
