Drove up lane from Pitchfolds on the main road and parked at first junction at top of lane on grassy triangle area. Started off by walking up lane towards The Hollies and just a short distance after passing the info board set off east up hill towards the trig point. Heading up to lone tree in an area which may have been mined, then turning north on a faint path towards the trig point. Another great location and views, we returned via the faint path but then headed down to the east of the stream nearer to our parking spot.

The pillar stands next to a large cairn and shelter on a gorse topped hill to the north of Bishop’s Castle. It was computed in 1949 and maintained in 1976. The top corners are a bit battered. It has FB S5204 and the spider is plugged by a metal cap with raised narrow lettering. I also parked on the grass triangle at the end of the straight lane and walked around to the north of the hill to reach the path to the summit. To the north low flat land could be seen disappearing into a distant haze between the nearby Stiperstones and Bromlow Callow. The Breidden Hills and Long Mountain are to the north-west with the feint outline of the Berwyns on the horizon. A broad vale heads towards Wales to the west with the Cambrian Hills in the distance. The long ridge of the Kerry Hills is to the south with other hills and ridges of the Marches in the distance. The Long Mynd rises up the other side of a broad valley to the east with the top of a more distant hill visible further on.
