This is a wild place. Bagged on a two day traverse of the Rhinog Ridge starting at Barmouth, The last trig point of the four along the way. Desperate conditions - driving drizzle, gale force winds. I have visited the pillar several times but not since 2008. Glad to have ticked off this cylindrical pillar. Now showing signs of the effects of weathering. Not sure where MysteriousSue got her "granite" from but the pillar constructed of Rhinog Grits turbidite sediments

Early morning climb from sea level to the summits of Foel Penolau and Moel Ysgyfarnogod via the Bronze Age cairn of Bryn Cader Faner. Great route at first but soon descended into bog and going was rather tough. Steep-sided granite to scale on top of the former (slippery in the light rain) but a very different nature to the second with a soft grassy top and the inviting trig. Views all round of the hills and estuary below.

Drove to the end of the lane east of Eisingrug and parked by the cattle grid. Room for 2 to 3 cars. Apparently there's an honesty box there asking for £2 to park but we genuinely didn't see one or we would have gladly paid to start our walk from that height. Was here with my Geocaching mate Dylan Burgess. We were up here doing the final to a 6 part Geocaching challenge we both started 5 years ago. Weather was terrible from the get go. No views at all for the whole 8 hour walk. Very wet underfoot in every direction we went. Wellies would have been better for the walking. but no good for the scrambling/climbing we had to do. Not sure if we took the best route up here as we couldn't see a path among the mist and low cloud. We could only see 30 metres ahead of us at any one time so there may have been paths to our left or right somewhere. trig is slightly damaged. Nice to see a round one for a change. Will come back again and hopefully in better/clearer weather to appreciate views we didn't see on this visit.

A large stone is no longer attached to the pillar and leaves a gaping gap. Poor Harlech is gifted this pillar, a few months ago it lost the title of steepest street in the world.

Came from west, from end of minor road leading east from Eisingrug. Very narrow, parking for a couple of cars at end of tarmac with donation box. Followed track to fishing lake and onwards on track, winding upward past strange piles of stone ?? then a bit of rough stuff to mainly grass clad summit. Unfortunately, it was very misty with low cloud so the views, although impressive, did not do justice to this lofty location.
