From junction of B-roads above Trawsfynydd holiday village. FP leads onto open access ground, from where I would recommend going high, over Moel Ddu and Craiglaseithin as the route of choice to Moel Oernant. Unremarkable hill but on a clear day, what a view point, iconic hill groups in every direction. South Snowdonia, Arenigs, Arans, Rhobell Fawr, Cadair and the Rhinogs. Exited generally along line of FP skirting below the higher ground, not so satisfying. Visit on a clear day.

Very easy ascent/descent on ATV track from dead-end road south-east of hill. Pleasant grassy walking conditions. We were surprised how good the view was. Probably one of the best for a small hill in this area. Overcast. Earlier that day we bagged Rhinog Fawr trig.

I began the morning nice and early at Penrhos Isaf, to the southeast of Ganllwyd. I followed forest tracks and the old Roman Road Sarn Helen northwards, seeing some deer along the way. I took the Penystryd footpath which led across access land to 500 metres west of the trig. I had to walk round it twice to make sure that I hadn't missed the flush bracket. It was overcast and dull, but I could still see for many miles from the pillar. I descended through sheepy fields and joined the unfenced road between Bodyfuddau and Bronasgellog, leaving me with just a couple more kilometers to cover into Trawsfynydd.

Fragile-looking stone pillar. Metal plug [raised letters]. Public. Access Land. Snowdonia National Park. From minor road at Penystryd, east of Bronaber holiday village, direct strike across tussocky moor to large lake Llyn Gelli-Gain. Hill & trig clearly visible from there on good day. Easily reached & not a hard ascent. Featureless moorland landscape & should not be ventured into in poor visibility.

Left house at 0730 & was walking by 0800. Farm track runs all way to .404, then a surprisingly long slog ('trodge' is right Barry!) over boggy ground to trig. Interesting slate construction at head of intervening re-entrant(?) Difficult track to follow around N slopes on way down. Pretty little slate footbridge crosses river by road.
