Walked from White Horse CP along Imber Range Perimeter Path (part of mid-Wilts Way), the boundary of the Salisbury Plain military training area. Then followed narrow track across the field from the east gate to reach pillar. The narrow track was so even it looked artificially made. Then dangling from the pillar, a glo-stick and orienteering clipper. Maybe something to do with the army, everything else round here is.

Over gate and across field for about four hundred metres. Pillar beside open gate between two fields. Checkpoint marker sticking out of top. Lovely shiny FB looks like it has been polished. Good views to west.

He didn't come close enough to feel any threat. Numbers in my geeky 'Birthday Trig Walk of Life' set for 2nd May birthdays makes it David Beckham's 48th birthday pillar. He should come and visit 2/5/23 next year. Kipped the night roadside about 400m to SW

Parking at the bottom of the hill just off the A350, or can drive up the single track road and park within 350m of the trig. Pleasant open area with good 360 views; Cley Hill very prominent to the west. The pillar has a large flake of concrete missing on one of the vertical edges and the plug is missing (with a piece of wood jammed into the centre hole). Sight holes are all open but with a rock jammed into the one beneath the FB. The pillar has a reddish hue to it and the concrete is smoother than most.

Perhaps it should be called Upton Sheep Down as they were the only inhabitants of this extensive pasture field. We parked on the little yellow road near Windy Ridge Farm but could have driven two thirds of the way to the trig if we had known. The track is part of the Imber Range Perimeter Path and metalled as far as the edge of the range. It seems to be a popular spot for local dog walkers and quite a few cars past us on our way there and back. The trig has good views in all directions, particularly over Salisbury Plain.
